One definition of a money manager is the professional or firm that selects the securities for your portfolio. The select the securities' asset classes, industries, types of securities, and the securities themselves. This is different that financial advisors who recommend money managers, like mutual funds, but do not recommend individual securities.

Most money managers specialize in investing in particular types of securities, for example stocks or bonds. Other money managers focus their investments on large capitalization stocks or large capitalization value stocks. However, the trend is for money manager to offer multiple styles of managements so they can control more of your assets. These managers may invest in a broad range of securities including domestic and foreign.
