Frequent Questions

What are the two most important criteria when I select a financial advisor?

All financial advisors claim to be trustworthy, financial experts. They know that's what you want to hear so it helps them sell investment and insurance products. You have to make sure the advisors really are "competent" and "ethical".

Why is written information from advisors important?
Verbal information is called a sales pitch. Information in pitches is easy to misrepresent and deny later because there is no record of what was said to you. Written information includes documentation for advisor credentials, ethics, business practices (compensation, reporting), and financial services. The quality of advisor information goes up when there is a written record.
How can I use the Internet to learn more about advisors?
First, you should review all of the information on this website. Second, go to www.FINRA.org to view the advisors' compliance records. Third, visit the advisors' websites. And fourth, conduct Google searches using their names and firm names. Go at least ten pages deep on Google.
What is my biggest financial risk?
Your biggest financial risk is not investing in the stock market. It is bad advice when you invest in the stock market. You make less in rising markets and you lose more in falling markets. It is tough to achieve long-term financial goals when your results are negatively impacted by bad advice.
